Look How Grades 5–9 Found Their Voice at SV International School

What happens when students are encouraged to speak their minds, defend their ideas, and listen to opinions that are different from their own? At SV International School, students from Grades 5 to 9 got the opportunity to find out through an engaging Debate Competition conducted on the school campus.

The competition gave students a platform to express their thoughts with confidence and present their viewpoints in front of others. Rather than simply focusing on winning an argument, the activity encouraged students to think independently, understand different perspectives, and communicate their ideas clearly.

At SV International School, the debate competition was designed to develop more than just speaking skills. Students were encouraged to analyse topics, build logical points, listen carefully, and respond thoughtfully. The experience helped them understand that having an opinion is important, but being able to explain and support that opinion is equally valuable.

Students from Grade 5 to Grade 9 actively participated in the competition, bringing different ideas and perspectives to the discussion. As the debates progressed, students had to think on their feet, organise their thoughts, and confidently present their arguments. The activity created an energetic learning environment where students could learn from both their own viewpoints and those of their classmates.

At SV International School, activities such as debates play an important role in developing communication, critical thinking, confidence, public speaking, and decision-making skills. These experiences help students become comfortable expressing themselves while also learning the importance of respecting different opinions.

The debate competition also reflected the school’s approach to learning beyond textbooks. Through such activities, students get opportunities to connect classroom learning with real-world topics and develop skills that can support them in higher education and future professional environments.

At SV International School, students learn in an environment supported by AC classrooms, digital learning facilities, sports opportunities, and modern learning experiences such as Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Students can also explore activities including Archery, Football, Karate, and Skating, giving them opportunities to develop their interests beyond academics.

Individual attention is also an important part of the learning environment at SV International School. The school maintains a student-teacher ratio of 1:30, allowing teachers to provide meaningful guidance and attention to students. For the pre-primary section, including Nursery, LKG, and UKG, the ratio is 1:25, supported by an Aayah and a co-teacher to provide additional care and assistance to young learners.

The Grades 5–9 Debate Competition was more than a competition. It was an opportunity for students to discover the confidence to speak, the ability to think critically, and the courage to stand by their ideas while respecting the thoughts of others.

At SV International School, learning goes beyond the classroom—helping students develop the knowledge, confidence, communication skills, and curiosity they need to grow.
